It’s time to start thinking about arrangements for your adventure in Cartagena for our wedding! There are so many options that instead of tying everyone down to one hotel we’ve decided to do a little research for you and provide some options/ideas. Cartagena is replete with different types of places to stay for all budgets, it’s just a matter of finding the right place for you.
For those of you who collect hotel points here are a few options:
Holiday Inn: Cartagena Morros:
A standard room with a king bed starts at $90.50 USD per night; a room with two beds starts at $86.78 per night; and a standard room also starts at $86.78. This hotel is located in a sector called “La Boquilla”. It is 22 minutes, by car, from the main entrance to the Old City (“The Clock Tower Monument”). Keep in mind you’ll need to budget for transportation costs when planning to stay outside of the Old City (however, this shouldn’t be a hefty sum as taxis and ubers in Colombia are very affordable). If you collect IHG miles you can collect with your stay here and/or use your current IHG benefits to cover the costs.
Holiday Inn Express: Cartagena Manga:
A standard room with a queen bed starts at $73.70 USD per night; a room with two beds starts at $82.87 USD per night; and a standard room also starts at $73.70 USD per night. This hotel is located in a sector called “Manga”. It is around 20 minutes away from the main entrance to the Old City (“The Clock Tower Monument”) by car. Keep in mind that you’ll need to budget for transportation costs when planning to stay outside the Old City (however, this shouldn’t be a hefty sum as taxis and ubers in Colombia are very affordable). If you collect IHG miles you can collect with your stay here and/or use your current IHG benefits to cover the costs.
Holiday Inn Express: Cartagena Bocagrande:
A standard room with a queen bed starts at $100.04 USD per night; a standard room with two beds starts at $108.24 USD per night; and a standard room starts at $103.09 USD per night. This hotel is located in a sector called “Bocagrande”. It is around 20 minutes away from the main entrance to the Old City by car. Keep in mind that you’ll need to budget for transportation costs when planning to stay outside the Old City(however, this shouldn’t be a hefty sum as taxis and ubers in Colombia are very affordable). If you collect IHG miles you can collect with your stay here and/or use your current IHG benefits to cover the costs.
Standard rooms at the Hilton start at $141 USD per night. For those who have Hilton rewards you can collect and use at the Hilton Cartagena. This hotel is located in a sector called “El Laguito”. Keep in mind that you’ll need to budget for transportation costs when planning to stay outside the Old City (however, this shouldn’t be a hefty sum as taxis and ubers in Colombia are very affordable).
Marriott: Unfortunately we are not finding further information for this hotel chain in Cartegena other than what’s available in the link provided. We suggest that if you collect points with Marriott and would like to cash in or keep accumulating during this trip you should contact Marriott directly.
Our favorite search engines for reasonably priced accommodation around the world are:
A great advantage of using hotels.com is that they offer rewards. You just have to sign up and start winning. For every 10 nights you book you get one night free. We’ve used this before and it can come in pretty handy.
From our experience, it’s never really difficult to find a good deal on great hotels through Priceline. Their prices are usually lower than Hotels.com’s prices but there are no rewards.
This is probably the most popular place to look for places to stay now-a-days. Find an entire home or a room in a private home to stay in. Recommended sectors to look at are: Getsemani; Bocagrande; Manga; El Laguito; and Cartagena Old City. You will find options ranging from $30 USD per night to $500 USD. Pick whichever fits your budget and taste.
Our recommendation is that if you know people who are also traveling to Cartagena for the wedding that you get in contact with them and share the costs of an Airbnb if possible.
